A different perpective.
A fairer future.

Chris Wild is a best-selling author, international care reform adviser and campaigner driven by one purpose: to help create a care system where a young person’s past never determines their future.
Chris Wild was named one of the Big Issue’s 100 Changemakers of 2026 for his work in Politics and Social Activism.
Chris's Story
From care to change.
Having grown up in care himself, Chris brings a perspective that cannot be learned from policy papers or statistics alone — lived experience. He has taken that experience from the corridors of children’s homes to the heart of national conversations about how we support some of society’s most vulnerable young people.
Chris served as an adviser to the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care, helping bring the voices and experiences of care-experienced people directly into discussions about national reform. Today, he continues to challenge policy, practice and systems, working with government, local authorities, charities and organisations to turn evidence and experience into action.
He is the author of Damaged (2018), his powerful memoir exploring childhood trauma and his experiences within the care system, and The State of It (2021), an unflinching examination of children’s social care from the rare perspective of someone who experienced the system as a child and later worked within it as a professional.
But Chris’s work is no longer simply about highlighting what is wrong.
It is about building what comes next.
As Director of Social Impact at Foster Greatness UK, Chris is helping to develop a national ecosystem designed with and by people with lived experience — connecting care-experienced people with support, services, communities and opportunities.
His work brings together lived experience, technology, community and social impact around a simple belief: real reform happens when we stop repeatedly describing the problems and start delivering solutions.
From care-experienced child to author, adviser, campaigner and changemaker, Chris’s story is one of evolution — and of a determination to ensure the next generation inherits a better care system than the one he experienced.
